Dear Friends,
My colleague and brother in myth, Martin Shaw has arranged for a group of Americans including myself, Judith-Kate Friedman, Robert Bly, Gioia Timpanelli and others to be invited to present at the Westcountry Storytelling Festival in Devon, England! What an honor! I will be traveling with Judith-Kate and Benjamin Dennis; the three of us will represent The Mythsinger Foundation. The opportunity to travel to Britain has been a life long dream! My earliest love of myth came through the Authurian tales of Merlin and later of Taliesin. So this trip represents a kind of pilgrimage; on the road for two weeks with the troop! That said, the chance to go to the UK is not yet certain. The funds from the festival are not near enough to cover the cost of travel and as most of you know I cannot travel alone. To make matters even more complex I recently developed a large blood clot in my left leg. I was hospitalized and began a long term treatment. My hope of making the trip to the Westcountry faded away. But now my doctor has given approval of my making the journey! However, I have lost a lot of time in asking for your support, and now time is running out. In case you don't know I was forced (by post-polio) to retire from full time work in 1995; I needed a quieter life to preserve my health. So began my scholarship in myth and eventually the writing of my first book The Other Within: The Genius of Deformity in Myth, Culture, & Psyche. Without the support of my larger community I would have missed so many opportunities to share my work. And so I am asking once again for your help. We urgently need $2500 to secure airline tickets before prices climb any higher. The goal is to raise $7200 to cover everything. We are giving a bon voyage concert on August 23rd here in Port Townsend, where we will announce the final total and thank our patrons. For those sponsors unable to attend we will record the concert and send you a cd or mp3 of the celebration.

I realize this is short notice, but as I am wont to say "if it's not impossible it isn't worth doing!"
